Spotlight On: Haley Langhorne, Cincinnati Market Manager
Haley Langhorne, Cincinnati Market Manager, is a motivated, organized person who sets an excellent example for her team. She leads with a sense of humor and transparency that makes her a leader that can be counted upon.
Q: What is your professional background?
A: I worked at a logistics company doing inside sales.
Q: How long have you been with Oxford?
A: Two and a half years.
Q: What daily habits do you recommend for success?
A: The biggest thing is writing out my schedule each day. What meetings do I have, and what do I need to accomplish?
Q: What would you say contributes most to your success at Oxford?
A: The main thing is that I’m very competitive, so I’m always striving to “beat” my peers and myself.
Q: What is one of your greatest achievements to date?
A: Donating a kidney in 2019.
Q: What attributes do you think are most important in a leader?
A: Leading by example – ensuring you do everything you’re telling others to do.
Q: What’s the best book you’ve read on business or leadership?
A: I am a huge reader, but very few are trying to make me a better person. This book has served me well in business and leadership – Atomic Habits. It’s not directly related, but it can serve you well in all aspects of your life.
Q: What skills do you think will be most in demand in 2023?
A: At my desk, I see a ton of App Dev roles, but I’ve also heard a lot about MDM and the cloud space. Digital transformation projects mean something different for everyone, but many of my clients have undergone them.
Q: What trends are you seeing in talent and recruitment this year?
A: The market has been bustling, so I feel like consultants’ shelf life has been short, so it’s important for them to stay up to date on the most current skill sets.
From the client’s POV, there’s a huge push to go to a hybrid instead of a fully remote environment. I think that’s going to be a big thing next year.
Q: As technology continues to advance, how do you see that impacting the recruiting and staffing industry?
A: Recruiting and staffing will be more critical as clients advance their tech stack. As long as Oxford works with consultants that mirror the market, we’ll continue to grow.
Q: How do you define customer care?
A: The biggest thing is transparency and communication. They appreciate that I’m not afraid to give bad news because it’s impossible to avoid that. This results in fewer people being upset with you or the service.
Q: What advice would you give to individuals interested in consulting?
A: Often, clients need consultants to ask questions and try to fit in culturally. Being proactive in that always goes a long way.
Q: How do you support driving change with your team or colleagues based on strategic business decisions?
A: The biggest thing is to, even if you disagree, fully support it in front of your team and implement it. Your team will follow suit, be supportive and lead by example.
Q: What do you do to mentor the individuals on your team?
A: One big thing is I always sit out on the floor when I can so I can answer questions and work closely with them in a less formal way just by being out there. Be accessible, and people see you working hard.
Q: What do you like best about working with your clients/consultants/team?
A: It comes down to building relationships. I always get to meet new people and learn new things. For example, I heard a hilarious story about someone’s niece who refereed the other kid’s soccer team even though she was only a year older.
Q: How do you maintain a healthy work/life balance?
A: When I set up my day and have everything written down, I try to check things off at the beginning of the day. It allows me to work smarter, not harder. It’s easier to get out at the end of the day when you know what you need to accomplish—and stay organized, too. I also think scheduling – I will schedule my workout so I know when to walk away.
Q: Why Oxford?
A: For clients – it comes down to having a proactive recruiting model which allows us to respond quickly to their needs with vetted and proven resources. Consultants have a dedicated Recruiter who builds a relationship with them and moves them from project to project so they’re not forgotten. Because we have separate Recruiters and Account Managers, someone advocates for the consultants. For internal employees – if you work hard, ask questions, and want to be successful, you can make a lot of money. For me - I’ve built great relationships both internally with oxford people and externally with clients. I do genuinely enjoy it.
Q: What is your work motto/favorite quote on success?
A: When you’re rich, you don’t write checks, straight cash, homie – Randy Moss.
Q: Do you have any special talents or a favorite hobby?
A: I love to read. I have a decent Cher voice for karaoke – the go-to song is Believe.
Q: How do you like to spend your free time?
A: Hanging out with my dog and my husband watching sports, and reading.
Q: What would your superpower be?
Q: How do you take your coffee/ What’s your Starbucks order?
A: Generally, I like a large black coffee but sometimes a cold brew with oat milk.
Q: What was your first job?
A: I worked at Brewster’s, an ice cream shop.
Q: What job did you want as a child?
A: I wanted to be a teacher or, randomly, a dolphin trainer.
Q: Who are you most inspired by?
A: There are so many, but it’s been Serena Williams lately.
