Situation
Our client, a global pharmaceutical organization, was transitioning from a legacy, on premise system to a modernized Computerized Maintenance Management System. They were facing significant hardware costs and technical skill gaps, so the move to a cloud-based architecture was tantamount to their success. The project scope included migrating multiple international manufacturing sites into a unified Industry 4.0 framework, thus laying the foundation for a scalable predictive maintenance program and enabling advance data analytics and real-time asset health monitoring.
Solution
Specifically, the client wanted to achieve the following:
- Migration from IBM Maximo legacy environments to the Maximo Application Suite
- Expand their digital maintenance footprint from a single factory to eight global manufacturing sites
- Shift from on-premise hardware to a cloud-hosted model to eliminate the need for $70,000 in server investments and $200,000 international headcount for specialized platform support
- Design and implement integration architectures for reporting and support within a containerized environment
- Strengthen current preventative maintenance practices while deploying the building blocks for Asset Performance Management (APM)
We provided three consultants with expertise in IBM Maximo, Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Data and IoT integration, AI components, visual inspection AI, inventory optimization, and reliability centered maintenance. These individuals, along with a Project Manager, ran the initiatives and ensured the client’s success.
Result
The transition to the cloud allowed the client to bypass massive capital expenditures for hardware and high cost of hiring full time OpenShift engineers. Additionally, using Predictive Maintenance for critical assets ensured production was never compromised. In addition, incorporating AI for inventory management allowed the client to reduce carrying costs while ensuring part availability for critical repairs.
