An expert in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston led a study revealing that, even when doctors used AI, their average diagnostic accuracy score was 76%, significantly below the 90% accuracy of AI diagnosing medical conditions from case reports. So, while human expertise and reasoning might surpass that of AI overall, AI can balance humans’ willingness to be open to new possibilities and assist in developing differential diagnoses.

However, these results are not always supported when it comes to diagnosing critical illnesses.
