Resumes should be in a language that\u2019s easy for a non-technical person to understand and digest.<\/p>\n<p>Conduct a resume \u201clitmus test&#8221; by showing a non-technical person in your network your resume and ask,\u00a0\u201cCan you understand what I was able to achieve and the value I brought to each position based on my resume?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Truth #3 \u2013 On average, your resume will get six seconds of attention before your \u201cinterview fate\u201d is decided.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nThe average length of time someone spent reviewing a resume has dropped\u00a0from 8.25 seconds to a mere 6 seconds in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Be strategic about communicating your core qualifications, relevant successes,\u00a0and other differentiators quickly. Pay close attention to layout, formatting, and design so key details are apparent and not lost in long paragraphs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Truth #4 \u2013 Your resume is no longer your only important \u201cprofessional marketing material\u201d.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nIf your resume triggers interest, most hiring managers immediately look you up on LinkedIn or\u00a0on\u00a0a more specialized professional platform like\u00a0GitHub. According to\u00a0many of our recruiters,\u00a0\u201chiring managers\u00a0may\u00a0want to\u00a0have\u00a0the link to\u00a0your\u00a0LinkedIn or\u00a0GitHub profile\u00a0directly\u201d to review\u00a0additional details\u00a0about your experience\u00a0that may not be included on your resume.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure all your professional profiles are up to date, easily found, and ready for review by potential hiring managers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Truth #5 \u2013 Communicating the impact of your contributions is vital.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nHiring\u00a0managers\u00a0express the importance of seeing the direct impact an individual has made via resume.
